Services of horse racing tipsters – Much in demand May 26th, 2009 | Horse Racing | No Comments »

The advent of the Internet has changed the way we do things – sometimes irrevocably and mostly for the better. There are more opportunities in different spheres. We can use the world wide web for accessing news, views, and information, a trend that is holding us in good stead in both our personal as well as our professional lives. Every kind of information is now available online and the realm of horse racing and betting is no exception. Gamblers and punters wanting to place their bets on horses can now make the most of the horse racing betting tips and hope to gain in the process. The services being provided by the horse racing tipsters are much in demand.

At the outset one must be clear about one thing. There is no method that guarantees the selection of a winning horse. All that the horse race betting tips can claim to do is to help the players take more well informed choices. With the services being provided by horse racing tipsters, the players have a better chance of winning on the bets that they have placed.

The objective of any horse racing tipster service is to eliminate the horses that cannot be backed. The players can follow the leads to identify the horses that are more likely to win races. The horse racing tipsters analyse several factors to come out with the top selections for the benefit of their patrons. These experts interpret previous racing statistics and look through additional background information to come up with the horse race betting tips. The background information could pertain to the trainers, jockeys, racecourses, or horses.

The way that these horse racing tipsters work is quite scientific. These experts analyse the relevant information and come to conclusions that have the more likelihood of coming true. These analogies can be as detailed as one wants them to be; however, one should know where to strike a balance; over analysis of information is also not the right way to go about things.

There are certain softwares that are currently available in the market and a player can take it upon himself to analyse the information using any of these. The players have to interpret the data according to their own judgment and some limitations are bound to come up. Racing of horses involves a lot of uncertainties and a software cannot possibly assess all the information that is relevant to the results. In this context, one could say that the services provided by the horse racing tipsters have an edge when deciding on the outcomes of a race.

The racing tipsters – often come with experience in horse racing and know all about the industry trends. Their ability to reasoning is honed to perfection and they can predict a horse race winner better as compared to the horse racing systems based on a software. They can take a subjective look at all the factors and come to accurate assessments. To know more about horse racing tipsters and the horse racing betting tips that they offer, an interested person can visit layracingtips.

Exciting Preakness Winners May 26th, 2009 | Horse Racing | No Comments »

The past few years have presented several exciting Preakness Stakes. Being that the race is the second leg of the Triple Crown, spectators around the country are often eager to see if the Kentucky Derby winner can pull through and take the Preakness as well, hopefully setting him or herself up for winning the prestigious Triple Crown – something that hasn’t happened in over 31 years.

The 2008 Preakness Stakes winner was one of anticipation with Big Brown. The colt had won the Kentucky Derby and was undefeated. The colt was able to take the Preakness Stakes by 5 and ¼ lengths over Macho Again. This put Big Brown in the perfect position to take the Triple Crown – the fourth horse to win both the Derby and the Preakness while remaining undefeated. However, the Friday following the Preakness, a three-inch quarter crack was discovered on the left front hoof. The horse had experienced the same injury before and trainer Dutrow kept the horse exercising for the Belmont. Unfortunately, Big Brown didn’t run well in the Belmont, actually bumping into a horse and becoming the first Triple Crown hopeful to finish last in the Belmont Stakes after such impressive wins in the Derby and Preakness.

Curlin didn’t win the Kentucky Derby, but the colt was impressive going into the 132nd Preakness Stakes. The Derby hopeful stumbled out of the gait at the Derby and was beat by Street Sense. However, he would go on to win the Preakness ahead of Street Sense, passing him at the top of the stretch and barely winning by a head. Curlin’s Belmont Stakes performance was a battle with the filly Rags to Riches, who overcame him by a head. Rags to Riches was the first filly to win the Belmont Stakes in over 100 years. However, Curlin’s most notable performance wasn’t in a Triple Crown race at all, but the Breeder’s Cup Classic later in the fall. The colt won the mile and a quarter Classic in 2:00.59, the fastest time on a sloppy track.

Another notable winner of the Preakness Stakes was Afleet Alex. The horse’s win wasn’t merely just a win, but a true example of determination and atheleticism. In the race, the colt narrowly escaped disaster when the leader, Scrappy T, swung out at the top of the stretch veering into Afleet Alex. The two horses clipped heels, which caused Afleet Alex to stumble. Jockey Jeremy Rose was thrown far over the horse’s neck and the horse nearly went to his knees. However, Afleet Alex recovered and beat Scrappy T with an amazing 4 ¾ lengths margin of victory. Such a disaster in any other race or with any other horse could have easily caused a fatal wreck. But, Afleet Alex not only recovered and won by 4 ¾ lengths, but also had the fastest Preakness time in the past eight years at 1:55. It was the fastest final three-sixteenths in Preakness history.

Each year the Preakness Stakes is a mystery. One never knows if the Derby winner will be able to win the second leg of the Triple Crown or if an amazing event will take place that changes the course of the Triple Crown all together.

The Belmont: A Look Back at Secretariat’s Record Setting Day May 25th, 2009 | Horse Racing | No Comments »

The day of June 9, 1973 is a day that has been marked in history books and the minds of horseracing enthusiasts for all time. This was the day that Secretariat ran in the Belmont Stakes, taking the 9th Triple Crown in history and the first since a 25 year drought in Triple Crown winners.

There were only four horses on the track that day to compete against Secretariat. One of those horses was Sham. The colt finished second behind Secretariat in both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. There were three other horses in the field that day, but they had little chance of winning and there were no “show” bets placed that day at Belmont. Bettors had their fate laid out – Secretariat first and Sham second.

The crowd that day at Belmont Park numbered 67,605 and all eyes were on “Big Red.” Secretariat and Sham set the pace early and it was fast. They opened up ten lengths between them and the rest of the field, but at the 6 furlong mark, Sham was tired and actually ended up placing last. He had fought long and hard to keep up with Secretariat in the mile and quarter Derby, the mile and three-sixteenths Preakness Stakes and now the mile and a half Belmont. This was by far the longest stretch the horses had seen, but Secretariat was still running hard and fast.

In the stretch, Secretariat had a 31 length (1 1/6 mile lead) over the rest of the field. This broke Count Fleet’s margin of victory record of 25 lengths. He had also just run the fastest mile and a half on dirt in history at 2:24 flat. He broke the stakes record by more than two seconds. The estimated average speed for Big Red’s entire performance was 37.5 miles per hour.

No other horse has ever broken 2:25 for one and half miles on dirt. It is estimated that if the Beyer Speed Figure had been created at the time, the horse would have earned a 139. It would have been one of the highest figures ever assigned.

Another interesting event that occurred that day was that the 5,617 winning pari-mutuel tickets for Secretariat were never redeemed. It is believed that the bettors decided to keep them as souvenirs instead of cashing in.

Whether or not a day like this will ever be recreated depends on the horseracing trainers and jockeys of today, but it’s always fun to reminisce when the next Belmont Stakes is just a few weeks away.

Notable Triple Crown Contenders May 24th, 2009 | Horse Racing | No Comments »

America hasn’t seen a Triple Crown winner since June 7, 1978. This 31 year drought is the longest in Triple Crown history, but there have been several notable horses that have come very close to winning it all.

In 1998, the horseracing world thought they were on the verge of seeing the next winner of the Triple Crown with Real Quiet. Unfortunately, he lost the Belmont by a nose. Real Quiet was trained by Bob Baffert and actually took seven races before getting his first win. After winning the Hollywood Futurity, Real Quiet improved dramatically. The colt was ridden by Kent Desormeaux in the Derby and won the Preakness by a good margin. Excitement and speculation was in the air for the Belmont, but Victory Gallop took it by a nose in the final stride. No horse has come closer to a Triple Crown win since. Real Quiet won the Ecliplse Award for his performances in ’98, an award for the best three year old colt of the year.

In 2002, another horse had excitement and speculation in the air as well. His name was War Emblem. War Emblem was trained by Bob Baffert and gave the trainer his third Derby winner. The horse gave a valiant effort for the Triple Crown, but stumbled out of the gates at the Belmont, falling to his knees. The horse got up and briefly surged to the lead and actually led the entire race, but lost steam at the top of the stretch and finished last.

The next year, Funny Cide would be the Triple Crown contender. He was the first gelding to win the Kentucky Derby since 1929. Funny Cide beat out Empire Maker (ridden by Jerry Bailey) and Peace Rules (ridden by Edgar Prado) and took the Derby by 1 ¾ lengths over Empire Maker. Funny Cide finished with the 10th fastest time in the history of the Derby with 2:01.19. The Preakness in 2002 was a unique race in that the coordinator had to actually go out and find horses to compete, as it looked like only six or seven horses were going to run. In the end, Funny Cide took the Preakness by 9 ¾ lengths. The day before the Belmont Stakes was a rainy one. A record crowd came to Belmont to watch the race, but the Funny Cide was pushed too close to the rail in the deep slop and it was just too hard to get out of. He finished third behind Empire Maker and Ten Most Wanted. Both horses were fresh from not running in the Preakness.

Although there have been many horses speculated to take the Triple Crown, many lose the Preakness. Only the coming weeks will tell us who will be the contender this year.

Three Techniques that Can Improve Your Online Horse Racing Bets May 24th, 2009 | Horse Racing | No Comments »

If you’ve been in the horse racing scene for a while, then you likely know that there is no shortage of ways to handicap a horse to try to predict the ultimate outcome of a race.

One such technique is coming to the track early so you can watch the horses with your own eyes before you decide on your bets. While there are certainly many great advantages that online horse racing has to offer, one marked disadvantage is the inability to observe the track and the horses in person. What this means to you is that you must learn a new set of techniques to make the right horse racing bets.

The first technique that you can use to improve the odds when it comes to online horse racing is to gather as much information as possible about the horses you would like to bet on. Make sure to look at the information on upcoming races ahead of time to allow enough time to learn about the outcomes of the horse’s prior races.

While a horse’s racing history certainly doesn’t guarantee whether or not he’ll win in the future, it’s certainly a good idea to consider this factor.

Second, when you have the necessary information, don’t bet on horses that haven’t raced in the past 6 weeks or so.

It’s not entirely unheard of that a horse that has been away from racing for this length of time might have a satisfactory performance, but the chances are not good. You should typically not choose horses that haven’t placed in their prior three races. Also, many people avoid betting on a horse being raced by a jockey who’s displayed a low win percentage in the most recent year.

Finally, from the list of remaining horses, you’ll want to research their maximum speeds during the previous three races. The fastest of these horses are likely to be good candidates for placing in an upcoming race. If you find that three or more of them are viable contenders, make your bets on the horses that pay the most based on the posted odds.

If you’d prefer to combine bets, then it makes the most sense to bet on the highest performing horse to win, and then place alternate bets for the other contenders. There are never any guarantees when it comes to horse racing, but these three techniques will ensure that you make the best possible horse racing picks so that you have the highest chance of winning.

Three Ways to Make Great Online Horse Racing Bets May 23rd, 2009 | Horse Racing | No Comments »

If you have some experience when it comes to horse racing, then chances are you already know that there are a variety of ways to handicap a horse and decide how to gauge the possible outcome of a race.

One of these strategies is getting to the track early to observe the horses personally before you make your bets. While there are a number of benefits to online horse racing, not being able to see the track and the horses personally is one distinct disadvantage of online betting. For practical purposes, this means you will need to come up with an arsenal of new techniques to make better online racing bets.

The first way that you can give yourself a better chance of making good online horse racing bets is to learn as much as you can about the horses before placing your bets. Browse the upcoming races as much in advance as you can so that you’ll have adequate time to research the horse’s history in prior performances.

Though a horse’s performance history is not guarantee of his future performance, it can be a good factor to consider.

Second, once you are armed with this information, avoid betting on horses that haven’t participated in any races in the past 45 days or so.

It could happen that a horse that’s been out of racing for that long might have a good performance, but the odds aren’t great. Also, you should generally avoid betting on horses that have failed to place in their last three outings. A number of people also rule out betting on horses that are raced by a jockey with a low win percentage during the past year.

Lastly, look at the list of horses that remain after you’ve eliminated the others and evaluate their top speeds in the prior three races. The odds are that these horses will be the top candidates for winning the upcoming race. If you end up with three or more horses that could be among the top contenders, place your bet on the highest paying horses.

If you want to combine bets, then go for the very highest top horse to win, and consider placing other bets on the remaining horses. Of course, there are no guarantees that a given horse will win, but these strategies will help you make the smartest choices when it comes to the world of online horse racing. Use these three tricks to increase your chances of making the most profitable horse racing picks.
