I thought Football, baseball or basketball will be one of the most attended–but horse racing? I don’t even watch that on tv, u don’t see fans going crazy over it, or wearing horse racing clothes like other sports.
because its the fastest and easiest way to gamble without having to go to vegas, atlantic city, etc.

Jackson Bend is the newest of our 2010 Kentucky Derby contenders and this is one of the entries you’ll want to keep a close eye on.
The 2010 Kentucky Derby horse racing betting future odds are up and you can get 18/1 on Jackson Bend right now. You’ll want to take that before this weekend’s race because it’s very possible that Jackson Bend becomes the favorite if he wins the Holy Bull Stakes.
This is the one horse amongst the 2010 Kentucky Derby contenders’ potential field that produced the fastest Beyer speed figure for two turns in North America as a 2-year old, and you have to put Jackson Bend up at the top of the list along with Looking at Lucky and Buddy’s Saint.
Jackson Bend stumbled to 2nd in his first race, but has since reeled off 5 straight victories at Calder. This horse can flat out fly and proved he’s deserves to be amongst the favorites for the 2010 Kentucky Berby after stumbling badly at the start of the In Reality before coming from way back to seize victory. The Gulfstream race has Jackson Bend as the favorite, and this will be a great test to see exactly where this 3-year old fits into the Kentucky Derby picture. Other premier contenders such as Aikenite and Piscitelli are also involved and we’ll have our picks and predictions up on the day of the race.
Check out the previews for the rest of our 2010 Kentucky Derby Betting contenders before checking out the full early Kentucky Derby odds on the potential entries.

When you are handicapping the races at the Meadowlands, you are certainly going to take a very long look at the past performances of the equine athletes, as well you should. Just about everybody who bets on the races is also going to consider the quality and past record of the jockeys very seriously as well, and after all, you need a solid pilot if you are going to win a horse race. But the way to win at the Meadowlands is not to do what everyone else is doing. To gain an advantage, you need to consider factors that many of the other handicappers are overlooking, and one of these is trainer trends and statistics.
To me, trainer trends are useful on a number of levels, but they are especially good tie breakers. When you are trying to choose between a couple or a few horses that seem to have similar ability, and you see no very clear cut jockey edge, you want to put the trainer under a microscope. If he or she rarely if ever wins a race, don’t expect that trend to suddenly reverse itself. Conversely, trainers that are usually in the money are very likely to be there again. The percentages don’t lie, and if the guy or woman sitting next to you never considers the importance of the trainer, you have an edge.
One of the important tasks that a trainer has is to decide exactly what race his charge will run in. Having the knack of knowing where to place you horse is key, and that is one of the reasons why some trainers enjoy greater success. They may not have their horses in better condition–they just know where to properly place them, and this is very useful to consider when you are trying to turn a profit at the Meadowlands.

Sam Houston Race Park offers racing fans with a great opportunity for those who like to handicap long shot winners at the track, and throwing out the favorites when betting is a very wise and profitable strategy when you pick your spots and back a live long shot. You have to remember that the goal is not to collect on every single wager that you place. The objective is to win money, and you can do that by picking just one winner on an entire card if you select the right long shot, or long shot exacta.
When you go to Sam Houston Race Park with a long shot betting strategy, it is important that you stay patient and not feel compelled to bet every single race. There are races that you handicap and feel as though the favorite is a very likely winner and perhaps the field is rather small, and there really is no live long shot and no value in betting the favorite. That is when you need to lay out, turn the page of your Daily Racing Form, and begin handicapping the next race.
Remember, when you are at the track, it is not your last opportunity to wager on a horse race. “Tomorrow is another day,” as they say, and you can always return to the races whenever you’d like to, so it is perfectly alright to bide your time and wait until you see some genuine value. We repeat: you do not have to bet every race, and when you learn that lesson you will find our bankroll fatter for the effort.
A visit to Sam Houston Race Park is great way to spend an evening or an afternoon, and if you are patient and disciplined with your betting, you can watch your bankroll swell while you are having a Texas sized helping of good clean fun.
As the Kentucky Derby nears, you can stay up to date on all of the latest news at 2010 Kentucky Derby Online Magazine.

There is nothing more exciting than welcoming last years two year olds back on to the racetrack the following season. However betting on horse racing can be difficult enough at the best of times even with current form to go by. Betting in three year old Maiden races brings it own set of difficulties and it is very likely that the form book will not stack up at the start of the season like you might expect it to!
During the previous season, these three year olds progressed at very different rates as two year olds. The main reason to not back two year olds at odds on due to this variability is still apparent early the following season. Unless you are receiving top class inside stable information, you are likely to be vulnerable to this lack of current form or knowledge to any individuals well being.
The bookmakers will price up the horses based on information that is not only out of date but unrealistic AND THEY KNOW THIS! How can the prices reflect the cold hard truth seven or eight months later? If two first season athletes were both off the track for over six months, it is fair to assume unless a world beating champion was involved not too many people would even consider betting on the outcome as one may well of trained on better than the other.
So why is it, that based on hype and the bookmakers mind games are we any more prepared to back one horse over another, especially in this medium? Be careful to make your own calculations and make your own mind up based on more than just bookmakers prices.
Some trainers are known to be good at readying this type of horse to do itself justice first time out however certain trainers have almost certainly left a little if not a lot to work on! These are great races to witness paddock side on the day of the race. By being at the racetrack you will be able to gauge not only one horses development from another’s but their relative fitness as well.
Mark Johnston’s runners can be fairly easy to gauge just watching the market. If the early prices in the morning were chalked up and his first time out three year old showed at around five to one or less and attracted good market support in the last thirty minutes before the off, you know your horse will be running well. On the other hand, if the price is five to one or bigger and started drifting before the race, you almost know with certainty that it would not be winning on this day.
The lesson, learn to watch for these patterns and make notes every month, every year if need be. Some trainers and stables really do know whether they have a great chance on the day in these types of races. Be careful to go through the form, you will often find if you study enough that stable A in a race actually beat one of the runners from stable B in this race with another horse! Form line, they know how their two selections fair at home and that in this case they have got the other horse beat.
Learn to know which stables judge this well and watch out for relative market support. Do not follow the market support two quickly though, quite often the support in the last five minutes is more relevant than any as the real liability is shown to all!
Another note to take for this type of race is the relevance of any jockey booking. Sometimes you will see Ryan Moore or Jamie Spencer riding for a stable that they rarely do in a really competitive looking Maiden when they could be riding for a stable that might be more familiar! Take note and check the statistics, these statistics are readily available and will help point the way.
If you really study the relation between the prices on the day at each bookmakers, and the stables the horses represent. You will begin to learn that some bookmakers are more ‘connected’ with certain stables than others. The best example of this is the quality of information Ladbrokes seem to have over the other bookmakers regarding the runners from the Ballydoyle stable (A.P O’Brian) and also other Irish runners! If Ladbrokes go shortest alone on any A.P selection you are assured of a good run. Learn to read these correlations between bookmakers prices and certain stables.
Betting on horse racing can bring great joy and does to many, not just financial reward but more than this. The challenge of working out all of the form lines and permutations is a science in its own right. Do not expect to learn these skills overnight, but spend as much time as you can reading about horse racing and watch as many races as you can. This way you too can learn over time how to make betting on horse racing pay in more ways than one! You may even become world champion at unravelling the three year old Maiden puzzle!

Woodbine Race Course and profit go hand in hand, and many top notch professional handicappers that I know salivate over the prospect of opening up the next day’s Daily Racing Form and crunching the numbers at Woodbine. Woodbine Race Course offers some of the very best grass racing in North America, and serious handicappers love to dive into the form and handicap races that are run on the weeds.
Breeding is one of the keys to grass course success, and it is important to know your turf bloodlines when you are handicapping the turf races at Woodbine Race Course if you want to know the best horses to be on to turn a consistent profit. It is really kind of amazing to me that most horses run so much differently depending on the surface, so it is essential that the novice handicapper realizes that dirt form does not necessarily transfer to grass, and vice versa.
When you see a horse that is trying the grass for the first time, it is usually an effort by the trainer to “leg him up” on the turf as a training tool prepping him for his next dirt effort, so beware. Some horses have been known to “freak” on the turf and register a monster outing in their first start on the weeds, but this is the exception rather than the rule.
Where there is a high concentration of quality horses, there is value to be found, and Woodbine Race Course is a very good track for value. If you apply sound racetrack betting systems, you can and will turn a profit at Woodbine Race Course.

I often speak to racing fans who are looking for sure winners at Fairplex Park, and of course that is what we would all like to find, but the reality is that there are no sure things in any given race. The way that you can make money at the races is to win consistently over a period of time with full knowledge that you will not win each and every wager. You will lose some races, but you will win often enough to come out ahead of the game if you implement sound handicapping strategies.
If you want to give yourself a solid chance to win more than you lose, understanding pari-mutuel wagering is essential. There are many exotic wagers that can yield high returns, and the superfecta is one of them. When I am asked how to win with a superfecta I usually recommend keying the horse that you think is going to win on top of the ticket and playing three or four horses underneath that can finish in any order as long as they comprise the second through fourth finishers. If you hit just one or two superfectas a day, you will be making money and steadily growing your bankroll.
You need to know your options when you bet the races at Fairplex Park, and if you take advantage of the exotic wagers that are available to you, there is a lot of money to be made. Collecting just a small percentage of the time can still be profitable if your wins are significant. The superfecta in last year’s Kentucky Derby paid out $278,503.20, and that would certainly offset quite a few losing wagers.

The Fair Grounds Race Course is located in storied New Orleans, Louisiana, and the track has had a very tumultuous history that began back in 1852 when it opened as Union Race Course. It shut down in ’57 and opened back up in 1859 as Creole Race Course, and changed names again in 1863, finally settling on the Fair Grounds.
Over the years the track has had to contend with a couple of different fires, and it was horribly impacted by Hurricane Katrina, but you can’t keep a good track down and it took about a year after the hurricane to repair the damage, but the Fair Grounds reopened for business in November of 2006. The thoroughbred meeting at the Fair Grounds runs from November through March, and they have introduced a brief quarter horse meet in late August.
Some of the top races at the Fair Grounds Race Course are the Grade 2 staples: the Fair Ground Oaks, the Louisiana Derby, the Mervin Muniz Jr. Memorial Handicap, and the New Orleans Handicap. They also host several Grade 3 races including the Risen Star Stakes.
If you can make it to New Orleans you will have the time of your life. There is truly no better place to visit in the entire country, and the racing at the Fair Grounds is second to none. And if you find yourself unable to make it down to the Big Easy, stay abreast of the latest news and information on the sport of kings online through the live streaming videos that are being offered and by reading all of the fine horsracing websites and blogs.

When you are trying to make some money betting the horses at Los Alamitos Race Course you notice right away that the fields are of small to moderate size in most instances, and there is very often a prohibitive favorite in the races there, sometimes in several consecutive races. This means that you have to alter your strategy somewhat when you are betting speed horses at Los Alamitos.
When I decide to tackle the card at Los Alamitos Race Course, I utilize a multi-race wagering strategy. I bet Pick 3’s, Pick 4’s, and I bet the Pick 6. When you bet these multi-race tickets you mitigate the challenge that is presented by a lot of chalk by singling horses that can’t lose, or who at least appear as though they can’t lose. You then reach further into races that are more competitive to give your ticket more value, maybe going four or five deep. In this manner you give yourself the best of both worlds, using the “can’t lose” chalk to your advantage rather than betting against it when you really don’t like any other horse to beat it.
It is very difficult to win at Los Alamitos when you bet every race individually, but if you stick to the Pick 3’s, Pick 4’s, and the Pick 6, you can stay in the black and inflate your bankroll. It is suprisingly affordable to craft a multi-race ticket that includes a number of different horses in the more open races, especially if you can “single” one or two races on the ticket.

If you are new to horse betting but don’t live anywhere near the track, there are a number of places where you can bet on horses online. The rising popularity of horse betting has spawned a number of betting sites, all of them offering bonuses to try and bring in more customers than their competitors. The time has never been better to get into horse betting. You can do it from the privacy of your own home practically 24/7. If you haven’t ever been involved in horse betting do not worry, it is very simple and does not take long at all to learn. A lot of people tend to get confused when it comes to the odds and the payout structure, but that is easy to remedy. If you are betting on a horse with 100 to 1 odds, it means that the people running the betting establishment think the horse has a slim chance of winning. Easy enough.
What about the payouts though? If you were to bet 10 dollars on a horse that had 100 to 1 odds, that means you would be payed 10 X 100 dollars (1000 dollars). That’s a nice payoff isn’t it? The only reason the payout is so much is because the horse is not likely to win. Many people prefer to bet on horses with 2 to 1 odds. This gives you a really good chance of winning but the payout is drastically smaller. It all depends on your personal preferences and how big of a gambler you are. At a foundational level, that’s basically all there is to horse betting. It can get more complicated but that is all you really need to know in order to get started. There is nothing like watching the horse you picked dash across the finish line knowing you just one a large chunk of cash! If that sounds fun to you, what are you waiting for? Sign up for an account at a site like http://www.sportsbook.com/ and start horse betting now!

US Horse of the year result @ Horse Racing Betting: The results of the most highly anticipated Horse of the Year vote ever taken will be announced tonight at the Eclipse Awards banquet at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. Will the winner be Rachel Alexandra or Zenyatta?
Each horse won every one of her races in 2009 - eight for Rachel Alexandra including five Grade 1 events and three against male opponents and five for Zenyatta including four Grade 1 events and the Breeders’ Cup Classic against males.
There were 232 ballots returned for the Eclipse Awards, the yearly honors for 10 divisions of thoroughbreds, one of steeplechasers and five of humans. Voters are either members of the National Turf Writers Association, employees of the Daily Racing Form or representatives of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, which includes horse betting track racing secretaries and workers at its statistical arm Equibase.
Comparing the merits of racing’s two superstars isn’t easy, and not because they didn’t race against each other.
Rachel Alexandra dominated races restricted to 3-year-old fillies in 2009, setting margin-of-victory records in both the Kentucky Oaks (20 1/4 lengths) and the Mother Goose Stakes (19 1/4 lengths).
Zenyatta’s body of work as a 5-year-old mare in 2009 wasn’t quite as impressive, because she didn’t race outside of the synthetic tracks in California and her four victories before the Breeders’ Cup Classic came against the same fillies and mares she always beats. She also enjoyed at least four weeks between each start.
The Eclipse champions are determined through voting by NTWA members, Daily Racing Form employees, NTRA-member designates and Equibase personnel, who vote for the top three in each category. Winners are based solely on first-place votes, with second- and third-place votes used to determine finalists. The exception is the Horse of the Year race. In a rule change this year, voters chose just one horse.

The Cheltenham National Festival Tickets is the most prestigious meeting in the National Hunt racing calendar in the United Kingdom, and has race prize money second only to the Grand National.Cheltenham National Festival is an event where many of the best British and Irish trained horses race against each other, the extent of which is relatively rare during the rest of the season.
The Cheltenham National Festival takes place annually in March at Cheltenham Racecourse in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. The meeting is often very popular with Irish visitors, mostly because of that nation’s affinity with horse racing, but also because it usually coincides with Saint Patrick’s Day, a national holiday in celebration of the patron saint of Ireland.
Huge amounts of money are bet during Cheltenham National Festival week, with hundreds of millions of pounds being gambled over the four days.Cheltenham National Festival is often noted for its atmosphere, most notably the “Cheltenham roar”, which refers to the enormous amount of noise that the crowd generates as the horses enter the home straight for long run in to the winning post.
The first Cheltenham National Festival Tickets was held in 1902 at Prestbury Park, Cheltenham National Festival , which still remains the same venue for the festival to this day. It was in 1904 that the first Cheltenham National Festival Steeplechase was introduced to the festival, a race which would become known as the Cheltenham National Festival Gold Cup in 1924, when it was won by a horse called Red Splash. The Gold Cup was the first of the festivals four Championship races, with the Champion Hurdle being introduced in 1927, the Queen Mother Champion Chase in 1959, and finally the Stayers Hurdle, which was first run in 1972.
In 2001 the Cheltenham National Festival was cancelled due an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Britain. The meeting had initially been postponed to April, but when a case of foot and mouth was confirmed locally, putting the racecourse within an exclusion zone, all racing had to be called off.In 2008 the second day of the Cheltenham National Festival was cancelled due to heavy storms which hit Britain during the week. The races scheduled for that day were instead run on the Thursday and Friday of the Cheltenham National Festival.
Until 2005, the Cheltenham National Festival had traditionally been held over the course of three days, but this changed with the introduction of a fourth day, meaning there would be one championship race on each day, climaxing with the Gold Cup on Friday. To ensure each days would still have six races, five additional races were also introduced. Two further races have since been added bringing the total to 26 races overall, with Grade One events including the Champion Bumper, Triumph Hurdle, Ryanair Chase, Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, Ballymore Properties Novices’ Hurdle, Arkle Challenge Trophy, RSA Chase, Champion Hurdle, World Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase and the feature race, the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
The Cheltenham National Festival also includes one of the two biggest Hunter Chases of the season, the Foxhunter’s, which is run on the Friday over the same course as the Gold Cup, and is sometimes referred to as the amateurs’ Gold Cup.

The Grand National Meeting is a famous National Hunt horse race which is held at Aintree in England. The Grand National Meeting is a handicap chase run over a distance of about 4 miles and 856 yard. (approximately 7¼ km), and during its running there are thirty fences to be jumped. It is presently scheduled to take place each year on a Saturday afternoon in early April. The Grand National Meeting was founded by William Philip Molyneux, 2nd Earl of Sefton, on land he owned at Aintree. There is much debate among historians regarding the first official race held and the majority of leading published historians such as John Pinfold, for example now prefer the idea that the first running was in 1836 and was won by The Duke.
This same horse triumphed again in 1837, while Sir William was the winner in 1838. These races have long been disregarded because of the belief that the 1837 and 1838 runnings took place at Maghull and not Aintree. In the last twenty years, several race historians have unearthed evidence that these three races were all run over the same course at Aintree and were regarded as having been The Grand Nationals Meeting up until the mid 1860s.To date though, their calls for the Grand Nationals Meeting of 1836–38 to be restored to the record books have been unsuccessful. Between the 1838 and 1839 runnings three major events occurred to catapult the Liverpool race from a small local affair to a national event. The Great St Albans chase, which had clashed with the Liverpool, was not renewed after 1838, which left a major hole in the chasing calendar, The railway arrived in Liverpool, which made transportation to the course by rail a possibility for the first time and a committee was formed to better organise the Grand National Meeting event.
These three factors led to a much more highly publicised race in 1839 which attracted a larger field of top quality horses and riders, greater press coverage and an increased attendance on the day. Over time the first three runnings of the event were quickly forgotten to secure the 1839 race its place in history as the first official running of the race. It was won by the aptly named horse, Lottery, ridden by Jem Mason.
The race is run over two circuits of Aintree’s The Grand National Meeting Course, which is triangular in shape and on which there are sixteen fences. All, except The Chair and the Water-Jump, are jumped twice. Some fences are notorious for their severity, particularly Becher’s Brook and The Chair, although in recent years this severity has been much reduced due to pressure from various animal rights groups. The Grand National Meeting is the centrepiece of a three-day meeting, one of only four run at Aintree in the racing season.
It is one of ten events reserved for live broadcast on UK terrestrial television under the ITC Code on Sports and Other Listed Events. It is estimated that the Grand National Meeting is watched worldwide by over 600 million viewers.
In 2006 the Grand National Meeting sponsors John Smith’s Brewery launched the John Smith’s People’s Race which gives 10 members of the public the chance to ride in a flat race at Aintree on Grand National day.
From a betting perspective, the Grand National Meeting forms the second leg of the Spring Double – the first leg is the Lincoln Handicap.
A fictional account of a young girl training the winner of the Grand National Meeting by Enid Bagnold was made into a film, National Velvet, starring the young Elizabeth Taylor as the heroine, Velvet Brown. The events surrounding the 1981 National, and the winning jockey, Bob Champion, were also dramatised in the film Champions.

Part of the depth of what it means to be an American is embodied in the annual renewal of the Triple Crown series and the pageantry of the Run for the Roses on the first Saturday in May. As we all know, the Derby is run underneath the venerable twin spires of Churchill Downs in the beautiful city of Louisville, Kentucky. There is nothing that can rival the tradition of languishing over a mint julep at Churchill Downs on Derby day, but the comprehensive media coverage of the event brings it into your living room quite effectively if you can’t make it to the race in person.
The Kentucky Derby is more than just a horse race. It means different things to different people, but in essence, it is an annual gathering that allows us to collectively recall the events that we have shared in the past while celebrating the present and looking forward toward the future. You can’t help but feel a certain emotional wave pass through you when the horses take the track and you realize that yet another Kentucky Derby is just minutes away.
To stroll down Kentucky Derby memory lane you have got to return to 1875, which is the year that Churchill Downs opened, and the 1st installment of the Derby took place in that opening year. There are spring and fall seasons that run at Churchill Downs, and as well as the Kentucky Derby, Churchill Downs has many other highlights: the Stephen Foster Handicap, the Grade I Humana Distaff Handicap, the Kentucky Oaks and the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic Stakes. A sojourn to Churchill Downs to take in the Kentucky Derby is at or near the apex of the must-do list of each and every horse racing enthusiast, and hanging out among the excited crowd under the twin spires on the 1st Sat. in May is the experience of a lifetime.

I have to give Churchill Downs, Inc. a lot of credit. They are doing a brilliant job preserving and even furthering the legacy of the Kentucky Derby and the sport of horse racing as a whole, and it seems to be paying off. I noticed that the track was making 3,000 Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks packages available on Wednesday January 6th, and I just absorbed that info and kind of forgot about it for a few days. The next time I checked their site, I saw that this allotment of Derby ticket packages had sold out the same day that they went on sale. That is really impressive, but get this: they sold out in 48 minutes. That is quite an endorsement for the viability of this big event if I do say so myself.
The last time I checked, you can still get general admission tickets to the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks through the ChurchillDowns.com website. They also recommend that people who are interested in tickets should check back often because they are making additional inventory available on an ongoing basis, but they get no more specific than that.
There are private sources of Kentucky Derby Tickets and comprehensive travel packages available as well, and the good folks at 2010 Kentucky Derby Online magazine will be offering information on the best ticketing deals available on the Interent as the first Saturday in May comes more clearly into focus. One thing is for sure–when you are interested in securing seats for an event that is always in gret demand, you need to have a close eye on the ticket on sale dates and be prepared to act quickly.

I have been asked many times whether there is a horse racing system that really works. The quick answer to that question is, yes, but the longer, ambiguous, but more accurate answer is yes and no. I am not trying to be cute, just letting you know how complicated the question of horse racing systems really is.
The reason that I say yes, is because horse racing systems can make money for a smart player. The reason that I say, “and no,” is because they don’t always make money. If you use a horse racing system that works at one track or in one kind of races, it may very well make you money, but if you try it at another track it may lose.
You have to do research so you will know what works at each track and in each kind of race. That means keeping accurate notes and planning ahead. The notes that you keep may not make a profit today or this week, but in the long run, they will make money if you use them wisely.
An example of my own success with note keeping and betting on the horses is the bets that I make money on at Aqueduct. When the races go from Belmont to Aqueduct on the New York racing circuit, I make money playing certain bets in maiden races. I make money because I kept track of what running style wins at Aqueduct and also which trainers were winning with that angle.
Early speed doesn’t hold up as well in the maiden races at Belmont as it does at Aqueduct. While Belmont seems to favor horse running off the pace a bit, Aqueduct favors front runners. So I watch maidens lose at Belmont after being on the front end or flashing early speed and wait for them to start at Aqueduct.
They often get to the front and take the lead at Aqueduct but instead of fading as they did at Belmont, they win. They often go often at good odds because the average bettor sees that they faded at Belmont and expects the same results at the “Big A.” This is just one example of long range planning that pays off and if you are investing in horse races, note keeping and long range planning will pay off if you stick with it.
If you expect quick profits and easy work, then forget about betting on horse races, but if you are willing to work hard and think ahead, you might make a little profit from your bets. It is a tough game and you have to love it in order to be able to put forth the effort to win.
The most consistent horse racing systems have to have the basics and a handicapper must understand the basics. I have been around horse racing for 50 years including as an owner. Without the basics the rest is not going to do any good. If you want to learn how a horse owner and insider handicaps just go to http://williewins.homestead.com/truecb.html and get the truth.
